In addition to a standard מספר נוכחות or סיפור להיום, you may want to ask:

The most relaxing time of my week is when…OR

What I enjoy most about Shabbat is… What I find hardest about Shabbat is….

And God completed on the seventh day His work that He did, and He abstained on the seventh day from all His work that He did.

What was the world lacking? Rest. The Sabbath came, and so came rest. The work was completed and finished.

  1. According to Rashi, what do you think is the difference between מלאכה (that occurs the whole week) and מנוחה (that comes on Shabbat)?
  2. What was missing in the world without “מנוחה”?
  3. List the different things you do on a typical Shabbos.
  4. Of the things you listed, what feels like “מנוחה” and what feels like “מלאכה”?

How can you make Shabbat a day of greater spiritual מנוחה for yourself?

Ask students to share a one or two word summary of their responses to question #5

OR Ask all students to share the location where their answer to #5 would take place (i.e shul, dining room, friend’s house…)

  • What creates a sense of מנוחה for you on שבת? What holds you back?
  • How can you increase the יום מנוחה of שבת for yourself?
