the children were pushing against one another within her, so she said, "If so, why am I?" and she went to seek Hashem.

1. How do you understand Rivkah’s question What is she essentially asking?*** Share. (If you come up with the same answer as someone else, see if you can figure out another possible interpretation.)

2. The word לדרוש can mean (a) to ask Hashem or (b) to seek or search for Hashem. Which definition do you think fits best?

3. The Ramban says that she prayed. What do you think she said? Write out her prayer in a sentence or two.

4. Share a time when you went לדרוש את ה'. Were you successful?

*** For the teacher: Just for your information, there are a number of answers provided by the commentaries, though it is not necessary to share these with students.

Ramban – Why do I exist? Would that I did not!

Yosef Kra – Why am I pregnant if I was always going to miscarry?

Ibn Ezra – Why am I so different from other women?

Rashi – if the pain of pregnancy is so great, why did I want and pray for this?
